Ahh, the 90’s. It’s a mystical time that everyone dreams about and longs to go back to, for some reason. To be honest, I don’t really remember the 90’s, even though I was born in the first half of that decade. Nevertheless, some things have stuck with me. Like TV shows. I didn’t watch many of them, but the ones that I did watch I loved and one of them is still on today, Fairly Odd Parents, though it hasn’t aged well. Some of the earlier shows I watched were Hey Arnold and Angry Beavers, and they have now arrived in PoP! form.
Unfortunately, I don’t remember more about Angry Beavers other than the brown-haired beaver lost his temper a lot and the yellow beaver was super chill, like Shaggy from Scooby-doo. I do remember an awesome arcade racing game of the Angry Beavers that I would spend all of my tokens on one Saturday a month at the local arcade, and then get upset that I didn’t really get any tickets for playing and couldn’t get a prize. Poor young me. But Hey Arnold was freaking awesome! You had the football head Arnold, his super cool best friend, awesome grandpa, a freaking pet pig, and there was that one girl who bullied him but loved him and had a shrine of Arnold in her closet. Creepy.
But now, those of us who watched these two shows when we were younger and more naive about the world, can get PoP! figures of our favorite cartoon characters to display in our homes and reminisce about the old days over, even though they weren’t that long ago. (They were over 20 years ago, that’s a long time! Geez….) For the Angry Beavers, we have our two main characters, Daggett and Norbert, the bachelor brothers who are always up to no good, ensuring that Daggett will lose his temper at some point with his big furrowed eyebrow. While these PoP!s are great on their own, I feel that the exclusive FYE double pack is better since those figures are flocked. It adds to the characters and makes them look like fuzzy friendly beavers that no one should go near unless they want Daggett to take off their fingers one by one and laugh while he does so.
Hey, Arnold’s set of two PoP!s is actually disappointing. It’s just Arnold and Helga. I love Arnold. He’s actually set in his box a little crooked so that his football head could fit in the box, which is funny to me, and also accurate for the character. But Helga as the second character? I mean, I can see Funko making Helga as part of a three set of Arnold, her, and Arnold’s best friend Gerald, but Helga over Gerald? That’s just rude. I want a Gerald PoP! figure and I’m going to complain until I get one, which won’t be anytime soon, unfortunately. It’s not that I don’t like the Helga figure. She looks like she did on the TV show, but I never really liked her as a character. She was a bully and I didn’t want to be a bully, so I wanted nothing to do with her, not even if she had a crush on Arnold. The fact that she had a shrine to him in her closet made it worse. But alas. Helga is here and there is no getting rid of her.
Now before everyone gets mad at me, yes, I do know that Rocko’s Modern Life got two PoP! figures of Rocko and Heffer, but I don’t really have an opinion on them. First of all, I never watched the show and I also haven’t seen these PoP!s out in the wild yet. I was more of a Cow and Chicken fan, as weird of a show as that was. But still, to all, Happy Hunting.
