As I have said before in previous reviews, Funko has been re-releasing previous Disney characters that are hard to find in updated outfits and poses. Aladdin has become the next set of Disney characters to receive this treatment and I have to say that this is a really fun set.
There is a new outfit for Jasmine that I never thought we would get to see – her red slave dress, which I thought Disney refused to recognize as an outfit, but here she is. She even has a sultry attitude with her hand on her hip and almost a sway on the side. Aladdin is in his same street rat clothing as previously produced, but it is much more detailed all the way down to the patch he has on the knee of his pants, probably from rolling on rooftops all of the time. Probably had to steal the needle and string to stitch his pants up if I had to take a guess.
The other three PoPs in this set are completely new as far as Funko characters go. There is Abu, Aladdin’s pesky monkey who always gets into everything, Rajah, Jasmine’s pet tiger, and then Red Genie Jafar, who is incredibly badass if I do say so myself. His black genie lamp is down at the bottom of his figure and he doesn’t have legs but a cloud of swirling smoke at the bottom of his body (he never actually has legs in his genie form in the movie). It’s always nice to see new faces and characters come to life in these figures. It’s also really funny to see Aladdin and Abu the same size. If you’re a collector or lover of all things Disney, then snag these PoPs up while you can. And if you are so interested, then you can find flocked variants of Abu and Rajah exclusively at Hot Topic and Books A Million respectively.
