I love indie comics. I am also the father of a transgender teen. When I saw that a local writer and artists were trying to fund a new LGBTQ-positive comic book called S.P.I.R.I.T., I was intrigued. When I saw that the art and story premise were fantastic, I just had to back them. Now I want to share the information with you our readers in hopes you too will be enamored by the sales pitch and help fund this fantastic project. Check out the information below, click the link, and help out if you can!
From Kickstarter, in the creators’ own words, here is a description of the project.
S.P.I.R.I.T. Issue #01 is a 24-page full-color comic about a group of teen girl ghost hunters. Mary, Ada and Jane are the scientific paranormal incident research investigation team or S.P.I.R.I.T.! The team uses science to disprove the supernatural for their vlog, but are shocked when they come face to face with a real ghost! Along with their new friend, Ash, the team investigates this supernatural mystery to find the truth!
S.P.I.R.I.T. is a female, science, diversity and LGBTQ-positive comic suitable for middle school kids and up. Our goal is to print the first issue and begin work on the second issue. Enter the world of S.P.I.R.I.T. by backing our kickstarter.
The story begins with the S.P.I.R.I.T. team of Mary, Ada and Jane performing a ritual to contact Annabelle Lewis at a local Indiana graveyard. Annabelle was the unfortunate victim of her sister Prudence on their 19th Century farm. The team fails yet again to have a supernatural encounter. What the girls don’t know is that Ash is watching them from the woods and sees a ghost.
The next day, Ash confronts the team and challenges them to find out what is happening but they are interrupted by the spirit of Annabelle’s sister. Dealing with proof of the supernatural and a new person in their group S.P.I.R.I.T. head out on an adventure to find out the truth.
You can follow the book and its creators on their Facebook page. And we will continue to update the project as it moves forward.
