Earlier today at Gamescom 2019, Activision revealed that a previously unannounced Alpha test will be occurring for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Coming this Friday exclusively for PlayStation 4, the Alpha test only has one mode, the fast paced 2v2 mode Gunfight. There will be five available maps, two of which haven’t been shown off yet. The Alpha will be available to all PlayStation 4 owners, and won’t require a pre-order or PlayStation Plus to join in.
The Alpha begins on Friday, August 23rd and will run through the weekend. There was also a new trailer for the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare today. The title will feature real-time Ray Tracing for NVIDIA GeForce 20 series GPU’s. The tech will allow for more photorealistic lighting in the PC version, and should be available at launch.
While there are still questions on how teammate balancing will work with crossplay, it was also announced that players on console will be able to team up with players on PC. If you have a friend that plays on PC and want to play with them, will it automatically lump you in with mostly PC players? This remains to be seen, but we’d assume that Activision and Infinity Ward still have more to announce on this front.
Both the Alpha announcement trailer and the NVIDIA RTX trailers can be seen below, so check those out. We’ll have full thoughts on the Alpha test early next week, so be sure to check back with us after that concludes to find out what we thought about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s new 2v2 Gunfight mode. Keep in mind, if you don’t jump in during this Alpha, there are a few betas next month for all consoles on varying dates.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches October 25th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Preorders are available here.
