During Sony’s State of Play stream today, Activision and Infinity Ward showed off a much closer look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s campaign. The new video highlighted a number of characters (including some returning fan favorites) that players should expect to meet on their journey, and a bit about their motivations. Also announced was that anyone who preorders or purchases digitally will receive the XRK Weapons Pack as a bonus.

The new campaign is a darker look into global conflict, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s campaign will apparently task players with tipping the global balance of power. We got a sneak peek at the campaign at E3, and loved what we saw. The new trailer continues that, as it looks a lot more human. Characters have motivations and reasoning, and it doesn’t look like you’ll be sprinting from one gunfight to the next. Of course, there will always be some amount of big explosions, but it’ll be a balance of slow tactical gameplay and large scale battles.

We recently also checked out the multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and liked a lot of what we saw, specifically during the second weekend after some of the kinks had been worked out. Modern Warfare looks like it’s going to be a turning point for the franchise, with more intimate connections between characters and crossplay enabled for multiplayer. Finally, the last bit of info that came out of today was that the return of the Spec Ops mode would be a PlayStation 4 exclusive for almost a year, and the exclusivity deal will end on October 1st, 2020. Check out the new trailer below, and stay tuned for further coverage as it comes in from Activision on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches October 25th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Preorders are available here.
