Spec Ops was one of my favorite modes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I was pretty surprised when the news broke that the upcoming Spec Ops mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare would be exclusive to PlayStation 4 for almost a year, luckily, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore, as the fan-favorite mode will be launching on all platforms when the game launches later this month on October 25th.
The mode this time will feature 4-player co-op, as players execute multi-phase objectives. Activision has said that the mode will advance the overarching story of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but exactly what that means remains to be seen. This time, things will be more fluid. Instead of each objective being a self-contained experience, players will have to execute multiple objectives. These can be taken on however the player wants, but it’s important to remember that the enemy will react to how you play.
Going in guns blazing means that enemies might call in extra help like juggernauts, but taking down enemies silently and stealthily can prevent this. Players will be ranked on their performance at the end of each run, and lots of killstreaks and weapons from the overall experience will be present. Rewards earned in Spec Ops mode are cross-earned as well, and can be taken into other modes in Modern Warfare. Similarly, progress made in multiplayer on operators carries over to Spec Ops. It’s a smart move for cohesion, and means players won’t have to grind in individual modes for rewards.
