Today’s the day in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and Operation Apocalypse Z has begun. We had a glimpse yesterday of the content that players could look forward to in this new event, but full details have been released from Activision. Players should expect Zombie-themed updates across all game modes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 during Operation Apocalypse Z.
It is important to note that Operation Apocalypse Z will only be available on PlayStation 4 at first, per their agreement with Sony. So what all will be changing during this event? We have a full breakdown of most of the changes coming over the course of the event, and we’re actually pretty excited about a lot of them.
Lets start with Blackout. In Operation Apocalypse Z the aesthetic of both Alcatraz and the original map has changed to represent the undead a bit better. Over the course of Operation Apocalypse Z new modes will make an appearance in Blackout as well, including Pandemic and Alcatraz Horde. More on those will be announced later.
There’s also a new specialist available in Blackout and Multiplayer modes with Reaper. Fans of Black Ops 3 will recognize the combat robot and his large mini-gun as he returns in Black Ops 4 for the Operation Apocalypse Z event. He also now has a Radar Shroud that stops enemies from using their mini-map and can use a scrambling device to block out areas on the mini-map.
The Black Market has also been stocked with Zombie themed items for Operation Apocalypse Z, and new perks and elixirs make their way into all Zombies maps, giving new variations on gameplay once they’re equipped and activated. That’s it for all the free content for Operation Apocalypse Z, so what’s in store for the Black Ops Pass?
New Multiplayer Map, Der Schatten – A snowy map set in a village high in the Austrian Alps that sits in the shadows of the castle from the Aether story Zombies experience, “Der Eisendrache.” Combat takes place in a combination of bright and dark areas pushing player to fight in close quarters.
- New Multiplayer Map, Remnant – A large-sized map set in the “The Museum of Unnatural History” deep in the Louisiana marshes where historical relics thirst for chaos and blood. Complete with a portal that can transport players to opposite sides of the map, Remnant is structured for mid-ranged combat where longer sightlines flank the exterior of the museum.
- Remastered Multiplayer Map, Havana – Reimagined from the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, Havana is a medium-sized map set in a sunny Cuban city during the Cold War tensions. The map is designed in a Z-shape resulting in a combination of close and long-ranged firefights.
- New Zombies Experience, Alpha Omega – Continuing the Aether storyline, Alpha Omega lets players jump in as the original, fan-favorite Zombies characters from both the Primis and Ultimis cast, playable together for the first time ever. This allows fans to gain new insight into the ever-twisting story as the timelines converge. Players will fight off hordes of new Zombie enemies, solve challenges, and discover new Easter eggs in a wild experience up to the very end.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Purchases are available here.
