Tonight at The Game Awards, a new Marvel project for Nintendo Switch was announced. The trailer shows a ton of Marvel Avengers and X-Men heroes duking it out in the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order trailer. No release date was announced, but it is currently being developed exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
This is the first new Marvel Ultimate Alliance title since 2009, and it’s a bit surprising seeing it release exclusively for the Switch. This will be the first new console game that will see the inclusion of MCU characters, Guardians of the Galaxy characters, and X-Men characters, and they will be going up against the Mad Titan, Thanos. The Ultimate Alliance has a pretty devoted following, and we’d be surprised to see this stay exclusive to Nintendo Switch.
However, this is the first Marvel game that isn’t a lego title to release for the console, so this marks a big step for Nintendo. There’s even a lengthy trailer that we’ll embed below, so make sure you check that out before you click away. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 will feature four player co-op, is being published by Nintendo, and being developed by Team Ninja. We aren’t quite sure what happened with the rights from the original two titles, published by Activision, but it probably has something to do with why the remastered titles were delisted from the store. It’s a shame too, because while dated, the games even now are some of the best couch co-op games to play with friends, on previous gen consoles and current gen consoles.
Check out the trailer below, and before he swings into theaters and onto Nintendo Switch in Ultimate Alliance 3, check out some of the gaming origins of the Into The Spider-Verse Peter Parker.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order launches sometime in 2019 for Nintendo Switch.
