Earlier today, Deep Silver announced that the upcoming Metro Exodus will be launching on PC exclusively through the Epic Games digital storefront.
The Epic Games storefront has shown some serious muscle when pushing to get new titles available exclusively through their store. With the recent announcement of The Division 2 being available through the platform (and assumably through uPlay), Steam has their work cut out for them. Both the standard version and the gold edition of Metro Exodus can now be preordered at EpicGames.com.
The biggest difference seems to be the focus the Epic Games store is placing on developers, with 88% of the cut going to developers, and any games developed with Unreal Engine getting the 5% surcharge knocked off. The biggest question was what would happen to those who already preordered through key sellers or Steam? Deep Silver will be honoring those preorders through Steam and other retailers, so anyone with an existing preorder has nothing to worry about, and no hoops to jump through.
Metro Exodus takes place two years after the events of Metro: Last Light. Players will once again resume the role of Artyom as he flees the Metro in Moscow on a journey east. The story will take place over the course of a year which begins with a nuclear winter. Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war in 2013, and life has not gotten easier for our protagonist, as players must continue to manage environmental hazards.

“Metro Exodus is amazing and is deservedly one of the most anticipated PC titles of 2019,” said Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic. “We are partnering with Deep Silver to launch Metro Exodus, underpinned by Epic’s marketing support and commitment to offering an 88 percent revenue split, enabling game creators to further reinvest in building great games and improving the economics of game stores for everybody.”
“We are delighted to partner with Epic to bring the digital PC version of Metro Exodus to market,” said Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO at Deep Silver. “Epic’s generous revenue terms are a game changer that will allow publishers to invest more into content creation, or pass on savings to the players. By teaming up with Epic we will be able to invest more into the future of Metro and our ongoing partnership with series developer 4A Games, to the benefit of our Metro fans.”
Any customer with an outstanding pre-order for Metro Exodus on PC through any digital retailer will receive their game as expected.
