Earlier today, Activision announced the commencement of a new season of content for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 with “Operation Spectre Rising.” This fresh batch of content is centered around the return of the fan-favorite specialist, Spectre. There is both free and paid content (for those with the Black Ops pass) for players to enjoy in this season, so lets take a look at the content in this latest update.
Beginning with the free content, players should expect to see an all new specialist: Spectre, Blackout updates, new Black Market gear, and fresh Zombies features. Spectre is a unique specialist, because he uses the Shadow Blade melee weapon to take down enemies quickly and silently. He also has a smoke grenade in his arsenal that he can use to hide his movements from enemies and reveal their locations.
The fresh Blackout updates follow the heels of the all new Alcatraz map that launched for the mode last month. The biggest change can be seen on the original Blackout map, which has seen an alteration since Spectre destroyed part of Hydro Dam causing a large flood, altering the way players will move around that portion of the map.
The Alcatraz map will also see some changes, like the Tactical Raft, but not a major change like the original map. The Black Market has been stocked with some new gear as well. This includes weapon camos, outfits, gestures, and accessories all themed after Operation Spectre Rising.
Players should keep an eye out for the Tigershark light machine gun and the Nifo’Oti melee weapon, which can all be unlocked through Contraband Tiers. Lastly for the free content, Zombies players can enjoy new weapons across all maps, and hard mode gauntlet challenges throughout the season.
Black Ops pass owners will be getting access to three new maps and a new Blackout character as well for this season. Two of the maps are fresh for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, while one is a remaster of a map from the original Black Ops. Masquerade is a medium-sized map set around an embassy under siege. Artifact is a large map set in a varied environment of thermal geysers and ice caverns. WMD is the map remastered from the original Black Ops, and is set in a weapons factory with a mix of outdoor and indoor firefights.
The latest character joining the Blackout roster is Uncle Frank, who is the older version of Frank Woods. Players will recognize Uncle Frank from Black Ops II when he debuts in Blackout.
All of this content will be launching first for Playstation 4 owners, and about a week later for Xbox One and PC players. Activision and Treyarch continue to support Black Ops 4 with a large amount of content every few months even though Activision just launched Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice a month ago.
Keep your eyes peeled on Electric Bento for further updates for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 over the coming months.
