PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on console hasn’t been a smooth ride. Players find themselves clipping into walls, buildings taking a while to load in, and overall desync doesn’t seem to be much better than it has in the past. While developer updates are few and far between, it’s a big deal when the community does see communication from the PUBG developers. That changes this week with the closing of Survival Title System Season one, and some other key changes for weapons and the original map, Erangel.
While the original Erangel map will be overhauled completely at a later date, the first key changes for the map begin now with loot balance changes. ARs, DMRs, and SMGs have all received a spawn rate buff, while snipers and handguns are getting a slight spawn rate increase. This means it’ll be easier to drop hot and jump right into the heat of battle on this map, when it was slightly difficult to find stronger weapons earlier before.
There are a host of other changes, which can be seen in the patch notes here, but weapon rebalancing is a strong priority for this update. PUBG’s public test server will be live beginning on May 21st, when the first title system ends. The PUBG live servers will be down for a few hours at this time for maintenance, but will open back up shortly.
The PTS for PUBG on consoles is returning on May 21 with a new update, including rendering/loading optimizations, MP5K, Erangel loot balancing, and more.

All of the patch note changes will be live on the PUBG test servers for a week before moving over to the live servers on May 28th. The Wild Card pass, which kicks off the next season of the Survival Title System won’t be live on test servers, but will begin when the patch drops for the main game.
While I fully admit that PUBG isn’t in the state it should be at this point, it’s hard to find another title that has the same hook that this battle royale does. Apex Legends and Fortnite are great alternatives, but they aren’t for me, and I have a hard time putting PUBG down from playing with my squad to really do anything else.
Make sure to check out the patch notes linked above to see the full list of changes coming to PUBG on console.
