Looking for a horror-themed game with some graphical pizzazz? Check out the new Whispering Willows game from LOOT Interactive, which released today for both PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. The graphical adventure / puzzle game got its start with a Whispering Willows Steam release on PC but has been digitally remastered for its PlayStation debut.
What does that remastering entail? The typical stuff you’d expect for a Whispering Willows game on PS4: updates to 60 frames per second and 1080p HD resolution. However, whereas many games get similar upgrades, it might really make a difference in Whispering Willows considering its somewhat cel-shaded graphical approach.
Having completed a successful Kickstarter campaign and worked its way through Steam, LOOT’s Whispering Willows game puts players in the shoes of Elena Elkhorn. Elena is on an adventure to solve the mystery of her missing father by exploring the haunted Willows mansion.
While on this adventure, Elena will gather clues, meet a cast of ghostly characters and use her magical amulet to take spirit form. When she’s a spirit, Elena can commune with the souls of the departed to help solve the mystery.
The mix of “real” and “spirit” gameplay poses some unique puzzle opportunities. And make no mistake, some of those will be hard. LOOT has a history of not shying away from challenging gameplay, and their launch release flat-out mentions the Whispering Willows game on PS4 has “memorable, challenging gameplay.”
Whispering Willows is a cross-buy title for PS4 and PS Vita, so if you buy it on one platform you can play it on the other. Included with the $12.49 purchase price ($9.99 for PS Plus members) is a limited-edition Whispering Willows dynamic PS4 theme. If you just want the theme, it can be had separately for $3.99.
