The 2019 World Series hasn’t even started yet, and much like the 28 teams not in that series, Sony’s San Diego Studio is already looking to next season. The developer revealed the cover athlete for MLB The Show 20 today, and the honor goes to Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez. Baez is coming off a stellar 2019 campaign, and definitely earned the right to be featured on the cover of Sony’s iconic sports franchise.
In addition to the cover star announcement, San Diego Studio also revealed the various pre-order bonuses and retail versions, both physical and digital. MLB The Show 20 will be available on March 17, 2020, but certain versions and pre-order bonuses will allow players to get a four-day jump and start playing on March 14.
“I am so honored and excited to be on the cover of MLB The Show 20. I’ll never forget how it felt when I saw myself in the game for the first time (even as a backup!). It was so surreal. Still, it’s one thing to see your virtual self, but it’s completely next level to be on the cover of a game you’ve played and love. Let’s go!” Baez told the PlayStation Blog.
The different versions of MLB The Show 20 include bonuses like stubs, standard card packs for Diamond Dynasty, Gold choice packs, Diamond variety packs, and even 30 MLB-themed avatars for your PlayStation 4. To celebrate the 15th year of The Show, GameStop is offering a special version that comes with a physical hat.
One of the preorder bonuses even gives players a Javy Baez card for use in The Show 19, which is a free game to anyone with a PlayStation Plus membership this month.
Pricing for MLB The Show 20 starts at $59.99 for the standard edition and goes up to $99.99 for the Anniversary and Digital Deluxe versions. Check out the complete list of bonuses in the image above.
MLB The Show 20 will be in stores on March 17, 2020. The 2019 World Series, featuring the Houston Astros vs. the Washington Nationals, begins Tuesday, October 22, 2019.
