After years of waiting, Sony and Naughty Dog have finally revealed the release date for The Last of Us Part II. One of the most anticipated games of the generation, the new title will be releasing early next year on February 21st. The Last of Us follows Joel and Ellie as they navigate the harsh world after a fungal plague wipes out most of humanity. There was a brutal accompanying trailer today too, during Sony’s State of Play which can be seen below. It’s been over six years since the introduction of these characters, and fans have been waiting incredibly patient for their return.

Also announced today were a handful of different editions that players will be able to get their hands on. There will be the obvious standard edition, a special edition, a collector’s edition, and the Ellie edition which are detailed as follows:

Special Edition:

  • Full game (2-discs) with steelbook and art book.

Collector’s Edition:

  • Everything included above
  • 12″ Ellie statue
  • Ellie’s bracelet replica
  • Lithograph with “thank you” letter from the devs
  • Sticker Set
  • Pin Set

Ellie Edition:

  • Everything included above
  • Usable backpack designed after Ellie’s in-game backpack
  • 7″ vinyl with music from the soundtrack

All versions will also come with a number of extra digital bonuses, which vary from edition to edition, so be sure to keep an eye on those. It’s worth noting that this will be the second PlayStation 4 game that will launch on two discs. The first of which was Red Dead Redemption 2. The Last of Us Part II will definitely be a large game, but I’m still surprised to see it on two discs. I’m sure this is because of the insane attention to detail that developer Naughty Dog has, but I think we’ll see more info about this in the future. Check out the new trailer below, and stay tuned for more info on The Last of Us Part II as it comes in.
