The Oscar Nominations were announced this morning, and one of my favorite aspects of this year’s field is how many films are already available to stream at home. Racking up four nominations is the innovative thriller Get Out, which is thankfully getting some love considering it was released all the way back in February. Get Out is available on HBO Go, and is one of many films released early enough in the year that they are already streaming, such as Beauty and the Beast, The Boss Baby, Logan, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
This year was also a big win for films produced by streaming services. Netflix’s Mudbound was nominated for 4 awards, including a deserving nod to Supporting Actress Mary J. Blige, and Amazon Prime’s The Big Sick was nominated for Original Screenplay. Netflix has also come to dominate the Best Documentary category in recent years, and in 2018 they host three nominees that are all powerful contenders: the accidental expose on doping, Icarus; the strikingly subtle Last Men in Aleppo; and the powerful film Strong Island, whose director Yance Ford is now the first trans director ever nominated for an award. Netflix also seems to be turning its attention to non-English features, and it is good to see they picked up Foreign Language nominee On Body and Soul.
Below is a list of all the films you can watch right now on streaming services:
