It’s no surprise that Avengers: Endgame is No. 1 at the weekend box office again. The bigger story is the how much the super hero epic is bringing in world wide, as it continues to shatter records across the planet. Endgame snapped up another $145.8 million in its second weekend, bringing its 10 day domestic total to $619.6 million. To put that into perspective, it’s making an average of $61 million a day. That is more per day than Pet Sematary has made domestically in five weeks.
The worldwide take for Avengers: Endgame is now at an estimated $2.1 billion. The film crossed the $2 billion mark in 11 days total. It took James Cameron’s Avatar 47 days to make $2 billion. Avatar is the highest-grossing film of all time with $2.787 billion in box office dollars.
The drop off between first place Avengers: Endgame and second place The Intruder is so steep, I’m sure Disney earned itself another Soul Stone from the fall. Screen Gems’ The Intruder, which stars Dennis Quaid and Meagan Good, made $11 million in its first week. The film is a thriller, yet it failed to thrill audiences still packing theaters for comic book-related fun.
In third place was another new film, the Seth Rogan-Charlize Theron comedy, Long Shot. The story of a presidential candidate (Theron) falling for her old friend and now her speech writer (Rogan) earned just over $10 million in its first week.
The last new film to debut this week is the animated UglyDolls from STX Entertainment. The family film, which features the voices of singing sensations Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Janelle Monae, and many more made $8.5 million in its debut.
Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson, rounds out the top five at the weekend box office this week, pulling in an additional $4.2 million, bringing its lifetime domestic gross to $420.7 million.
