May 13 is known as X-Men Day, and to celebrate the occasion, 20th Century Fox has released a fun new poster, and videos from the upcoming X-Men film, Dark Phoenix. Three new videos were released in anticipation for the newest — and presumably last — X-Men film with this cast and this studio. Disney acquired the Fox film library and the X-Men property, meaning that the Mutants like Wolverine and Professor X and Magneto can finally come home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The first video released is titled “X-Men Legacy,” and it is a two-minute recap of the films of the last 19 years. Many of the characters in the X-Men films have been played by various actors — save for Hugh Jackman, who is, was, and always will be Logan/Wolverine — and all of them come together in this video to talk about the impact that the X-Men films have had on the world. While not intrinsically said, without 2000’s X-Men film, there may never have been a Marvel Cinematic Universe and the multi-billion dollar franchise it bore. Check out the “X-Men Legacy” video below.
The second video released by Fox is called “Marvel Icons,” and is a two minute feature interview with comic book legends Chris Claremont and Louise Simonson, the creators of the Phoenix character. In the video Claremont, the man responsible for the popularity of the X-Men comics in the 1970s through the ’90s, explains what Jean Grey means as a character and Simonson explains a little about her origins. It’s a fascinating look at one of comicdom’s most important and powerful characters. Check out the “Marvel Icons” video below.
The last video released for X-Men Day is the newest — and last — trailer for Dark Phoenix, title “A Phoenix Will Rise.” The video features scenes from all previous X-Men films while featuring the plot of the new film. In Dark Phoenix Jean Grey (Game of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner) is imbued with the cosmic powers of the Phoenix Force, and the X-Men led by Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) must try to stop the overpowered Phoenix from destroying the world. The trailer makes this upcoming film look great, and Dark Phoenix will be released on June 7, 2019. Check out the new trailer.
