New Horror based Movie Funko PoP! figures are out and people have been waiting to get their hands, or claws, on them. As soon as they started hitting the sales floor, they disappeared in a puff of black smoke! Luckily, I got a chance to buy them and share my thoughts with you victims, er, fine people.
The new series includes some new and old horror classics. Annabelle, the creepy doll from The Conjuring and her own movies, Bride of Chucky Tiffany, Norman Bates from Psycho, and Carrie herself are finally out and people are loving them, myself included, and I’m not a fan of scary movies, actually it’s more like I refuse to watch them if given the option. But these PoP! vinyl figures, on the other hand, have become some of my favorites.
Annabelle is the best, hands down. She throws all the rest of the horror Pops to the curb with her creepy factor and beautiful design. Her blue cracked eye is unnerving and she looks like an actual doll that could come to life, tear her way out of the box she is in, and destroy you with a lift of her finger. This is the one pop that I feel that everyone who is a PoP! collector needs to have in their collection. She is so beautiful and skin crawling creepy that any collector will fall in love with her.
Carrie is essential to those who collect PoP! or are into horror movies. She has blood smearing down her head from the iconic prom scene in the movie as well as the Stephen King novel. The paint may look smeared, but it is designed to look that way. She has raised spots on her pop design that are meant to be red with blood, but if it smears, I feel like it isn’t a big deal at all. It makes each pop unique and it covers Carrie’s face more with blood to make her even creepier.
Norman Bates is alright. He’s wearing woman’s clothing and holding a knife, poised at the ready. I wasn’t too impressed with the figure overall, mostly because it is too expected. It’s the big reveal from the Psycho movie. But at the same time, I don’t know what else Funko would have done as far as the design of the character goes, but it wasn’t anything surprising. I wanted a little bit more detail on the clothing Norman Bates is wearing. More texture on the bodice of the dress would have enhanced the figure tremendously. There is a future FYE exclusive version in black and white, for the purist collector.
I was most disappointed in Tiffany. She’s a doll, just like Annabelle, but she looks lame in my opinion. She doesn’t look like a doll enough to me. She’s essentially a doll animated by a human soul but she doesn’t look like a doll? She just looks angry. I feel like if you have a possessed doll out to kill everyone, that menace should be transferred onto the figure. Annabelle does it incredibly well, especially with her cracked eye, but Tiffany is just there and not doing anything. At least Norman Bates is holding a knife ready to stab the next person in the shower!
If you are a fan of horror movies, I would snag all of these Pops if you find them in the wild. For PoP! collectors, Annabelle and Carrie are a must have for your collection. They are beautiful to me, even though I am actually terrified of scary movies.
