With just two weeks to go until Swamp Thing premieres on the DC Universe online service, Warner Bros. and DC have released a new trailer that features more of the human actors in the highly anticipated series. The Swamp Thing trailers gives fans a better understanding of which direction the show will be taking when it premieres on Friday, May 31.
Swamp Thing is the third live action DC Universe exclusive show, after Titans and Doom Patrol. The show is created by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman (Annabelle, The Nun) and looks to take a very dark approach to the classic DC Comics character. Swamp Thing was created by Len Wein, who also created Wolverine for Marvel, and Bernie Wrightson, arguably one of the best comic artists of a generation.
The character found new life in the hands of Alan Moore, the creator of Watchmen, and Steve Bissette, whose artwork married perfectly with Moore’s words to create an almost beautiful horror tale set in the murky swamps of Louisiana.
The DC Universe Swamp Thing is a new take on the character. Swamp Thing was previously the subject of two feature films in the early to mid ’80s, and a TV series at the end of the decade. This version sees the campiness erased for more darker undertones, and this Swamp Thing looks to be decidedly horror, and less superhero.
Swamp Thing stars Andy Bean as Alec Holland and Derek Mears as the titular creature; Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane; Hendersen Wade as Matt Cable; and Kevin Durand as Jason Woodrue. The show will feature a few DC Comics standouts, including Madame Xanadu, played by Jeryl Prescott, and Blue Devil/Daniel Cassidy, played by Ian Ziering.
The long wait is almost over for fans to feast their eyes on this new Swamp Thing, but until then, check out the new trailer and come back in two weeks as we being our weekly coverage of the show.
Swamp Thing premieres exclusively on the DC Universe online service on May 31, 2019.
